thank you and oh !!!! i think it'd be amazing if you checked out the southern reach series by jeff vandermeer . it used to be a trilogy but the fourth book just came out this year !! annihilation is my absolute favorite book and i'm also in love with its film adaptation, annihilation (2018); the film version is quite different but they both have their special narrative differences....
i'm attaching a list of films and a list of games as well i won't say much about them because i don't want my opinions to overwhelm you or change how you perceive the different works
films:
- alien (1979) – alien subject matter, female lead
- predator (1987) – alien subject matter
- prey (2022) – alien subject matter, female lead
- the matrix (1999) - sci-fi horror ACTION
- 10 cloverfield lane (2016) – ???, female lead
- nope (2022) – alien subject matter, commentary on racism and oppression, female lead
- resident evil (2002) – ???, action, female lead
- godzilla (1954) – kaiju subject matter, commentary on war
- eraserhead (1977) – ?????????????? i have not seen this in its entirety so i cannot personally recommend it but it's regarded as a classic by many others
- the crazies (2010) – disease outbreak premise
games:
- bioshock (2007) – a -punk of some sort
- resident evil (1996) - zombies, mutations, diseases, etc.
shows:
- severance (2022) – more of a thriller but has horror elements
- scavenger's reign (2023) – alien planet exploration/survival subject matter, very comparable to the southern reach series
- common side effects (2025) – pharmaceutical/medicine subject matter, mystery, action, not exactly a horror but has some horror elements (same creator as scavenger's reign)
